Chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system. Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventative care for disorders related to the spine, nervous system, muscles and joints of the body. After a thorough history and physical examination, a unique treatment plan is developed for each individual. Treatments can include chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilizations, soft-tissue therapy, electro-modalities, rehabilitative exercise, supportive devices, as well as dietary and lifestyle counseling.

RMT’s use a combination of myofascial work, neuromuscular therapy, joint mobilizations, hydrotherapy, muscle energy techniques and focussed assessment geared toward each individual’s specific needs.

Dr. Steve completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. He graduated with distinction, and also received certificates in Applied Human Nutrition and Health and Fitness Studies. He then packed up and headed east to pursue his chiropractic education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, ON. Dr. Steve graduated with summa cum laude and clinical honours, achieving the highest academic standing in his class over the four year program. He received numerous awards for both his academic and practical achievements.

Dr. Steve has completed full body certifications in both Active Release Techniques® and Graston Technique®. He was a longstanding Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association® (NSCA). He is also a provider member for the Exercise is Medicine Canada professional network. Previously, he taught at the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy (OVCMT) in the areas of musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics and kinesiology. He is currently on the OVCMT Program Advisory Committee.

Dr. Steve has a special interest in the management of sport-related concussions, sports and running injuries as well as non-operative treatment approaches for lumbar spinal stenosis. He has worked with many professional and elite level athletes, but enjoys the variety of a well-rounded family practice.

Chiropractic has inspired Dr. Steve to work with patients to identify the underlying cause of their condition, and to help provide strategies for effective self-management. He strives to empower patients to become active participants in their own care, and loves helping people achieve their personal health or performance goals. Dr. Steve feels that a collaborative, patient-centred approach is in your best interest and he strives to work with other health care professionals.

After years in the big city, Dr. Steve is happy to get back to his small town roots. Born and raised in Grand Forks, BC, he is very excited to now call Vernon home. When not in the clinic, you will find him on the trails running or mountain biking. And, if there’s snow on the ground, chances are he will be strapped into skis or a snowboard. These days he also has the pleasure of getting up way too early each morning and trying to keep up with his young daughter during all of life’s little adventures!

Dr. Laura McPherson is a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) with a focus on family care. Dr. Laura has experience working with infants, children, pregnancy related conditions, and athletes of all levels. Dr. Laura completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta prior to graduating with clinical honours from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. Dr. Laura incorporates techniques like Active Release Technique®, Graston Technique®, Kinesio Taping®, Functional Neurodynamics, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, and different manual techniques into her treatments.

Chiropractic has inspired Dr. Laura to work with people of all ages to reach their optimal health, function, and performance. She prides herself on her ability to listen and relate to her patients, working with them to reach their personal goals.

Dr. Laura is certified in the Webster Technique and has her Paediatric Certification of Proficiency through the International Chiropractic Paediatric Association. Dr. Laura continues to take courses in gross motor development, paediatric care, tethered oral tissue (lip and tongue tie) and infant feeding support. She has a passion for working with pregnancy and postnatal care and neuromusculoskeletal care for infants and children.

Dr. Laura is a long time competitive and recreational athlete who enjoys swimming, hiking, biking, running, snowboarding, ultimate Frisbee, and fitness training.

Raised in Grande Cache, Alberta, Dr. Laura is grateful to be living in Vernon and exploring the area with her husband, her two young children and her two energetic pups.

Julie will be on maternity leave from December 2023 to June 2024. Kayla Ostafie, RMT will be taking over her practice during her time away.

Julie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Adventure and Tourism in 2012. She guided outdoor trips for several years from sea-kayaking to hiking. Julie enjoys a very active lifestyle, always in movement she wanted to get a better understanding of human anatomy. She enrolled in a 200 hrs yoga teacher training in 2018 before becoming a Registered Massage Therapist. Julie graduated from Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in 2020.

Passionate about health and self-care, she thrives to offer massage treatment to help alleviate pain to improve quality of life. She uses diverse techniques such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue and orthopedic assessments to set and achieve treatment goals. Also using her yoga knowledge, utilizing the breath to calm down the nervous system for longer lasting benefits.

In her free time, Julie can be found in the mountains, hiking, skiing or mountain biking. If not in the mountains she will be hanging out in her garden with friends, family, and her four chickens.

Kayla was born and raised in Vernon, BC. After graduating high school, she moved to Edmonton, AB for eight years. In 2020 she moved back to Vernon to attend Massage Therapy school at Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, where she graduated with her Massage diploma in July 2023. Kayla finds the human anatomy very interesting and wants to continue her education through continuing education courses to broaden her skill set. She is very dedicated to health, exercise, and personal care. Her treatment focus is to help improve quality of life, alleviate pain and help fix disfunctions. Many treatment styles she likes to use include myofascial techniques, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and orthopedic assessment. Kayla will not be accepting any new ICBC or Worksafe claims while she covers for Julie.
